In recent years, hospital has been awarded 160 research fundings from several foundations including The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), National Key Technology R&D Program of China during the “11th Five year Plan”, MOH scientific research foundation. The hospital has received more than 30 provincial or municipal technology progress awards including first prize for MOE Science & technology progress award, second prize for the people's Liberation Army-Science & technology progress award, second prize for Fujian Province-Science & technology progress award, first prize for Xiamen municipal Science & technology progress award (thrice). In addition, hospital has published more than 200 papers on SCI journals and participated in editing more than 20 medical textbooks for college and university education.

For research purpose, the hospital has set up more than 20 clinical research laboratories including Central Laboratory, Cardiac intervention Laboratory, Hypertension Laboratory, Microsurgical Laboratory, Neurology Laboratory, Oncology Laboratory as well as the “Key laboratory for Neurology of Fujian” and “Key Laboratory of Metabolic Diseases of Xiamen” in cooperation with Xiamen University. The Post-Doctoral Research Station was approved by MOHRSS in 2006.

As the pioneer hospital in Fujian area, we are so proud to be the first hospital in Fujian to obtain MOH and CFDA approval for National Drug Clinical Trials qualification in 20 disciplines including Cardiovascular, Endocrinology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Radiology and Diabetes have been qualified for.
